T 26 The Cast

For our movie opening we only have 1 main character, which we have chosen to be Niona Kyhle-Kahr, we have chosen to use her as we think that she would be able to act out the characters role very well.

For when we are filming the bathroom scene we will use 5 other girls to be in the background, who have not yet been decided.

T 25: Risk assessment

1. Slipping over in the bathroom, this could be due to slippery floors, to ensure this doesn't happen we need to all take extra care whilst walking around in there.

2. Falling down the stairs, someone may accidentally miss a step and fall down the stairs, so we need to make sure that we watch where we are going at all times.

3. Burning hands in the water from the sinks, so we need to make sure that the water is at a good temperature.

4.Whilst the lights are off at the beginning, someone may walk into things, therefore need to all take care at all times.

5. Niona may trip up whilst she's putting on her tights, she must take extra care, or sit down whilst putting them on.

6. The camera we use may get hot so we need to ensure that if it does, we turn it off and do not put it on anything that could set on fire.

T 24: Location shots

Together we have chosen where we are going to shoot our opening.

1. Niona will wake up in her bedroom in Plewlands House, we decided to use this location because it is a nice girly room which would be very appropriate for our film.

2. We will use the corridor in Plewlands as she is walking to the bathroom.

3. One of the Plewlands bathroom/ shower room.

4. The stairs in Plewlands, walking down them.

5. Walking out of the main Plewlands doors to outside.

T 20: This is my storyboard to show the steps that will be taken throughout our film intro.

T 18: Story arc

Here is a story arc for our film, with what happens throughout the whole film.

1. Our film starts with a girl waking up in the morning to her alarm going of. She gets out of her bed and has a worried look on her face, this stays on her face as she gets ready for school, getting into her uniform, brushing her teeth etc.

2. The girl leaves the house and we see her walking to lessons, still looking very worried. When she arrives at lessons she sits at the back of the class next to her best friend who has a concerned look on her face.

3. The lesson begins and her best friend says to her 'I'm really sorry, but you know what you told me last night, well I told someone.' The girl looks shocked as her secret has now been revealed, she looks up to see all her class mates who are giving her very strange and shocked looks, with the odd giggles in the background.

4. Time passes and later we find out that her secret is that she likes girls, her friends treat her very weirdly throughout the rest of the film and by the end they ignore her and don't want anything to do with her.

5. She begins to get called names and she really hates it so, she decides to tell her mum, who is very understanding and takes her out of her school and sends her to a new boarding school... and the film ends with her starting her new school and trying to be normal.

T 23: Shot list and shooting script.

Here are the lists of shots that we are going to use in our film.

1st shot: The camera is going to be looking down at nionas feet, while she is lying in bed.

    Pumps

    Music they listen to

Girly music - Girls Aloud, The Saturdays
    The Beatles

    T13
We have done some audience research to see what films have good openings, what attracts people and what puts them off.

A film should grab you right from the start, it should introduce one of the story lines and should use catchy music, and good editing.
There should also be an element of suspense with in it.
There needs to be a sense that something really exciting is going to happen and that they do not want to stop watching it.
It puts people off when there is just a long section with titles, with nothing interesting happening but just names across a screen.

After looking at lots of websites, Jaws comes up as lots of the number 1 opening sequences, because it is gripping.
T12 Below is our mood board, it is meant to portray the feelings that a person would get when they watch our film that we are gong to make. Our film is going to be happy, but a bit mysterious. It is going to be very girly hence all the pink as that is the stereotype girls color. It beguins with a girl climbing out of bed in her dorm at school, so there are other girls around and she is primping here self up for school. The heels and and lipstick is what she might have in here room, and the cocktale is what she might want her life to consist of once she has left school, ie, glamorous.

    T15

We did some research on the Pearl and Dean website to see how they categorise their audiences.
We then considered what sort of audience we thought that our film would fit into, and these are our ideas,

    • Its aimed for 15 years olds.
    • It will mainly attract girls as it the main protagonist is a female however it may appeal to boys aswell.
    • It will be more aimed at the middle class, but class doesn't really affect our ideas very much.
T16: What institutions might distribute, produce, and exhibit our film?

Well I think our film will have similar characteristics to the film "My summer of love".  This is a perfect film to compare it to as it is also an independent film. According to IMdB the below production companies produced the film "My Summer of love". Also, it was distributed by "Focus Features" meaning that it Focus features would take there type of film, they would probabaly take ours.

    Production Companies

    Distribution companie

    • Studio Canal
    • Optimum Releasing
    • Focus Features (most suitable)
So in this case I think if we were to find production companies to invest in us to make our film, we would start with the above ones. This film is similar because it is based in the UK, and has female protagonists, This is just like our film will be. There are many other film companies that would produce our film, and films alike. BBC Films is the one that stands out the most though, for example it invested in the film Ginger Rosa, which is also a similar style film to ours. I think the BBC would invest as they do such a wide range of films.

To exhibit our film we would ask large cinema companies like Odean, View, and Ciniworld. We think these companies are suitable as they target a wide range of audiences. Particually teenagers, as they often go to see films in the holidays.
T10  This is England, Textual Analysis
The movie this is england was made in 2006, but is based around the year 1983.
The opening credits consist of showing all the significant and memorable parts of the year. For example, The Faklands war, the minors strike, the famous computer game "godzilla", and the marriage of Princess Diana, and Prince Charles.
The film starts with the camera tracking along some nasty buildings with graphite all over, the title then comes up, and says "This is England" this gets across to the watcher what housing was like back then, basically, it was rubbish. Showing this, really gets across how some people were living.

The sound is music the whole way through, it is cheerful music which is pleasant to listen too with a good beat. It is called "54-46 was my number" written by the toots.
The clip has been edit in a way that it goes from happy times to violent times to memorable times to significant times. This show our country in positive and negative ways.
The clip keeps flicking back to Margaret Thatcher who was the then Prime Minister of the
country, it is almost like that she is being blamed on what is going on in the clip.

The editing in this clip is done so that you can see both sides of the persons view, so if it is a riot, you see it form the policemen side, and the rioters side, as shown below.

                         Rioters point of view

                          Policemen point of view

The clip is edited to see significant time frames, ie the lead up to the riot, the riot, and then the damage after the riot. The clip is also edited to fit to the music for example when the bomb goes off killing the terrorist the music pauses and a drum is hit. this signifies the bomb going off. This clip is edited to show you both sides of everything. By doing this it shows england in a fair representation. For example it is edited to show what women do, then to show what men do, and then a man and a women together.

The Mise-en-Scene in this clip is what tells the whole 80's story. By the cloths that the characters are wearing, it sets the mood, and helps tell the story. For example the men fighting in the Falklands are wearing army cloths, therefor we know they are in the army. As this clip is showing Britain, it needs to show the things in our country, ie sheep in the fields, the British flag, and the nasty looking houses etc, and that is exactly what this clip does, and what are all these things? well, they are Mis-en-scene, without these, the clip would be very different.

T 11: Screen shots of key moments

Below are 9 key shots from the film Dirty Harry

This shot shows that it is something to do with the police

This is the first shot of what is basically a mini story, first there is a man with a gun, guns are dangerous so automatically the audience is griped.

Then we find out who the gun is being pointed at. The audience now knows who the un-lucky person is.

now we know where the gun man is, and were the girl is, the man is high up, and the girl is on a roof top swimingpool

Of the killing sequence, this is the last shot, it is a bit like "who, what, why, when and how." it explains the basics of the situation.

This shot is the first time we see Clint Eastwood. But we want to know what he is here to do. As he is the main character, we might as well follow him.

He goes to see the body, he doesn't look remorsful, with his glasses on, in a suit and tie. This almost says with no words "i will get the man that did this"

This shot is of the tall building that the shooter was in. It signifies the sheer enormousness of the task Dirty harry is facing to find the killer.
The end of the credits are him finding the bullet shell. The story carry's on from their with him trying to find the killer.

T 8: With Alice, I have identified the primary traits of independent films.

    Independent films, identifying traits

    • Independent films are produced outside the major film studio system.
    • They are distinguished by their content and style and they are often made in the way of the filmmakers' artistic vision.
    • They are often made with very low budgets.
    • They often include only one main character.
    • They are thematic, facing a series of topics that conventional films don't take in consideration, such as prostitution, drugs, homosexuality, the family decadence etc.
    • Aesthetics include different formats and ideas; they use different techniques such as black and white, shiny colours etc.
    • Independent films are usually owned by individuals rather than corporations.

    T 6: Film Brief

Below are the five slides that I used for my film brief.
We decided to do an independent one as it seemed most justifiable for school.
Our story allows us to film each scene in the perfect environment, without having to compromise, as we only have access to the Gordonstoun campus. As our film is based in a school, thins makes it easy.

T 5: Second Jelly baby task

Above is my second Jelly Baby vidoe. We decided to go for the second thriller which has to have something to do withe a ghost in, as we decided, it would make the video more complex-ed  This video is about a jelly baby being hornted on a walk, and being watched by a monster from in the woods. the monster then jumps out and eats the jelly baby.

T 5: First Jelly baby task

Above is my Jelly Baby buying a hourse video, It is out of the comedy section of the task. We chose to go for comedy as it can be hard to take a Jelly Baby seriousely. We thought we would attempt something scary in our next video.
While making the vidoe I found it hard to model the plasetrcene, to make it look like what it was ment to represent. We made the story simple
    1: consider buying horse
    2:buy horse
    3 ride horse
    4:fall of horse
    5: horse jumbs on  baby...

    5 simple shots.

    Perky Partridge launched!

    A long way to go...

Why did we choose to call our production Perky Partridge?

We decided to call it Perky Partridge for three reasons. One: because it sounds alliterative and trips off the tongue nicely. Two: It also has the word "perky" in it, this gives of a sense of cheerfulness when it is read, and Three: because it is a catchy name.

Why is the background to this blog in red?

I chose to do the background to this blog in black with a camera because I thought it is quite appropriate for the topic that we are studying. It also has a profesional look to it.
